JACOB ZUMA: FIRED, RECALLED OR OUSTED in 2019?
Published on December 21, 2017
South Africa scandalous President, Jacob Zuma, may be fired or recalled before the conclusion of his second term in office.
The African National Congress (ANC) party has elected Zuma’s deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, as the party leader.
Mr Ramaphosa, though Zuma’s deputy shares an ill-relationship with the President.
Speculations accrue that ahead of the 2019 general elections, one of the following events may occur;
Zuma is Fired
As the 62% majority belonging to the ANC is under threat because of Zuma’s poor performance, Ramaphosa will take over from him in order to regain the confidence of the people to the party and retain its position as the ruling party in 2019.
Although this will stir up controversy in the party as some allies of Jacob Zuma may resist the move. According to Fikeni,Mr Zuma is “not the kind to bow out without a fight. He would be prepared to bring the ANC down in flames.”
Zuma remains in office
Some are of the opinion that the focus of Mr Ramaphosa should be how to unite the ruling party which has become bitterly fractured over leadership bid and also to regain the trust of the citizens to their party not to witch-hunt Mr Zuma as justice will take its toll on him through the judiciary for his numerous crimes.
Zuma steps down
According to Mr Fikeni, ANC leaders “do understand the political cost of Zuma , who will be in and out out of courts over the next year”
“That itself will be a death knell in 2019(ahead of elections)” instead the ANC leadership is “likely to talk to Zuma nicely, and appeal to him to step down.”
He also said “If he resists, a ‘recall’ might become inevitable.”
