Ahed Tamimi , a16-year-old Palestinian activist has been detained by the Israeli forces, she was arrested during a raid to their home in the village of Nabi Saleh at 3a:m on Tuesday.
Bassem , Ahed’s father who is also an activist speaking with Al Jazeera disclosed that the soldiers forcefully entered their house, scattered their luggages and confiscated their phones. They were all forced into one room.
Nariman Tamimi, the mother of Ahed Tamimi was arrested by the Israeli force when she visited Ahed so she could witness her (Ahed) interrogation.
Ahed’s cousin Manal Tamimi told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces shot tear-gas canisters at homes in the village which resulted into the clash.
Bassem Tamimi, Ahed’s father has been arrested a number of times and was tagged a “prisoner of conscience” by Amnesty International, the international rights-advocacy group, during one of his several stints in Israeli prison 2012
“At the end of the day I am a father. It is not easy to see soldiers raiding yur home in the middle of the night to take away your daughter’’
“I can’t imagine how anyone can do this,” he said
“I’m so angry. But I am powerless to do anything. This is occupation,” “They want Palestinians to suffer.” He lamented
An Israeli army spokesperson told Al Jazeera that Ahed was accused of “assaulting a soldier and an IDF officer” and participating in a “violent riot” but Bassem denied such ever happening.
According to him, Ahed was only trying to prevent the Israeli soldiers from causing further harm to the villagers as her14-year-old cousin, Mohammad, had been hit straight in the face by a rubber bullet fired by the Israeli soldiers.
In his words, “Ahed was telling the soldiers to get away from our home, she was trying to force them to leave to prevent the soldiers from hurting anyone else.”
“We cannot live normally under occupation, we have no choice than to resist ; but because we resist, we pay the price”, he added.
In her final remarks, Manal made known the new system of the Israeli forces which is targeted at all age groups whether young or old , adult or teenager.
She disclosed, “On Monday, Israeli forces detained 15-year-old Ahmad Tamimi from his school in a nearby village and released him later in the night.”
“This has given us the message that everyone now is being targeted- men, women, and children,”
“The last three days have seen the arrest of two children and one severe injuries to a third.”
The Palestinian NGO Badil condemned Israel’s night raids on Palestinian communities terming the policy as “particularly gruesome” and a means of “subjugating and suppressing the Palestinian population.”
